Memoryscapes: the memory of landscapes,
the landscapes of memory

During her residency, Marilia Destot immersed herself in the heart of the Deauville coastline and its surroundings, capturing its colours, atmospheres and textures. These elements feed into a series of poetic images, which she transforms into collages combining local landscapes and fragments from her personal archives.
Her photographic practice incorporates techniques such as tearing, collage, pitting and chromatography, giving life to compositions in which chance plays a central role. This work questions the memory of places, the traces of time and our relationship with the landscape.

A French-American photographer born in 1977 in Grenoble, Marilia Destot lives in New York. She explores an intimate style of writing about family memories and landscapes she has travelled through, drawing on nature and her archives, manipulating prints and creating photographic, literary and sound collages. Her work questions the ephemeral, loss and resilience, and celebrates the poetry of a reimagined world. She exhibits in Europe and the United States.
