Memoryscapes

During her residency, Marilia Destot delves into the heart of the Normandy coastline, capturing its atmospheres, colors, and textures. In her studio, she transforms this natural material: she fragments, layers, tears, and assembles her photographic collages into organic strata. Guided by intuition and chance, she creates a series of poetic images — imaginary landscapes that question and shape both a memory of the landscape and the landscapes of her memory.

A French-American photographer born in 1977 in Grenoble, Marilia Destot lives in New York. She explores an intimate style of writing about family memories and landscapes she has travelled through, drawing on nature and her archives, manipulating prints and creating photographic, literary and sound collages. Her work questions the ephemeral, loss and resilience, and celebrates the poetry of a reimagined world. She exhibits in Europe and the United States.
